Unprecedented UAS Opportunity in North Dakota

By Luke Geiver | February 12, 2015

The UAS industry just received a major boost. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has granted a broad certificate of authorization to the state’s UAS test site that will allow those affiliated with the test site to conduct UAS research across nearly two-thirds of North Dakota. For the industry, the site will offer access to agriculture fields, wetlands and oil developments, to name a few.

The enhanced use lease granted to the Grand Sky Development company that is running a UAS tech and business park just outside of Grand Forks, North Dakota, is unprecedented. Expect coverage from the main ceremonies taking place next week from the future Grand Sky site located next to the Grand Forks U.S. Air Force Base.

Our team has already received several invites from different entites related to the event, and, as you might imagine, we’ve happily accepted every one of them even if many have been for the same thing. Our team will be part of a major gathering that will include every major government official from North Dakota including the Governor, both Senators and the state’s lone representative.

I can’t imagine the buzz that will be floating in the air at the event given the level of excitement we can feel already regarding the announcements. And, I can’t wait to see what’s floating or flying in the air around the site in the days ahead.
